HD3SS3212-Q1: Tpd delay

Part Number: HD3SS3212-Q1

Hi Sir,

Here is one question regarding HD3SS3212-Q1.

The Tpd(switch propagation delay) should mean the required time through PCIE switch. Right?

In short, we worry about any issue about PCIE synchronization(3 LANES are connected directly, one lane go through PCIE switch)

Is there any synchronization issue if we connect as below.

  • Hi Anne,

There is no issue with a single lane going through the switch device.  As shown in the post, the switch device delay is just 80ps.  This is equivalent to ~ 1.25cm of trace on the PCB.  If the layout is not yet complete, the PCB layout could be used to completely compensate for the switch delay.  In any case, PCIe is designed to handle several ns of delay skew between lanes.  The PCIe devices will do an internal lane alignment to fix the Tpd differences.

    Regards,

    Lee
