Hi,

My customer would like to confirm over current condition to the system.

TIOL101 has a FAULT pin to report FAIL status to Host, but it may not report what kind of failure is happened. Then I guess TIOL101 doesn’t support with customer’s requirement.

Is there recommend device or new roadmap to support customer requirement which report over current condition?

    Hello Nagata-san,

    You are correct about the limitations of the global FAULT indication, and we do not currently have plans to modify this in future devices.  However, since there are only a few conditions that trigger FAULT assertion it may be possible to determine the cause if certain operating conditions are known.  For example, if the application can determine that it is not in an undervoltage state and the PCB temperature is not too great, then FAULT assertion would be most likely the result of overcurrent.  Also note that if the maximum current limit is configured via pulling RSET low, then you could use a switch (e.g., FET controlled by the MCU) to open RSET instead when a fault is detected.  Having RSET open sets the same current limit value but disables the fault reporting; so, if the fault did not repeat then you would know that it was an over-current fault.
