RS422 TX from 5V supply to 3.3vRS422 RX

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM26LV32E

Hi Community,

I'm feeding the RS422 TX signal from RS422 transmitter which has 5V supply to AM26LV32EIPWR RS422 RX input which has 3.3V supply.
Is this configuration causes any problem ?

Because in datasheet of AM26LV32EIPWR part mentioned maximum differential input is +/-7V, but the TX signals from 5V supply Transmitter will go upto +/-10V .

Please guide me.

Thanks & regards,

Divya

  • Hi Divya,

The largest differential voltage amplitude a 5-V transmitter could supply would be +5 V or -5 V.  (10 V would be the "peak to peak" swing, which is not what the +/- 7-V specification in the AM26LV32EIPWR is describing.)  It is OK to connect a 5-V transmitter to the AM26LV32E device; this is common usage.

If you have any other questions please let us know.

    Regards,
    Max
