TPS65987D: TPS65987 Sink design issues

Hi ,

I have TPS65987 on board configured as sink . I generate a program that works on TPS65987 EVM. The only difference between our board and EVM is that PHV1 is floating - on EVM it is connected to SYS_PWR. I changed the ADCIN1 to resistor ratio to 0.24 which is BP_WaitFor3V3_Internal and safe configuration. In Debug mode of TPS65987 Application customization tool I see PD negotiated on EVM but when I connect to our board there is no negtiation. Is it because PHV1 is floating on our design.

Hi Ali,

Since you have the BP_WaitFor3V3_Internal Dead Battery Mode you use PPHV1 as the sink path. The device will not start-up or attempt to lead device configurations until VIN_3V3 is present. Let us know is this solves your thread.

We external VSW_3V3 on the board to power TPS65987 3V3. What mode should I be for sink design?

Hi Ali,

If you provide VIN_3V3 external then you should be in BP_WaitFor3V3_External mode which is corresponds to Safe Configuration. This corresponds to 0.4-0.48 range. For further information visit the datasheet page 41 and 42. Let us know if this solves your thread. Thanks

It is 0.4-0.48V range but I still don't get any VBUS when USB-C apple adapter is connected. That is my Question why is there no VBUS and your previous answer doesn't solve my problem.

Hi Ali,

I was wondering if there is an specific reason you are using the BP_WaitFor3V3_External. Can you try using the BP_NoWait mode. In addition, PPHV1 should be tie to ground when unused. Ensure that PPHV2 is being modified as the sink path since by default PPHV1 is the sink path. Let us know if this solves your thread. I will put you in contact with an engineer with regards to the LM5175.
