LMH1219: Transmission Distance

Hello team,

Customer found that LMH1219 cannot support ≥50 meter transmission distance, but it should support 75meter as mentioned in datasheet. Customer used Canare L-5.5 cable model, the signal was 8k/60fps.

Can you suggest how to increase the transmission distance?

    Hi Miranda,

    I believe your customer is using 12G SDI (4K/60fps). Or maybe they are using multiple 12G SDI links for 8K/60fps,

    As you noted, LMH1219 can support 75m B1684A or about 100m Canare 5.5CUHD cable. Please use LMH1219EVM to verify your customer report. LMH1219 should be able to do longer than 50m of Canare 5.5CUHD cable. Also, please check with your customer to see if indeed they are referring to 5.5CUHD cable or other cable model? Can this customer use B1694A cable for evaluation? Data sheet cable reach numbers are based on using B1694A cable.

    I checked that customer use 5.5CUHD cable.

    Could you list possible reasons of this issue? Such as bad PCB layout?

    Hi Miranda,

    There are a couple of things we can try:

    1). Use SigconArchitect GUI to control customer LMH1219 device. This way we make sure this is not setup related. For this test, customer needs to use LMH1219 updater software(this is on LMH1219 secure site folder).

    2). A potential root cause could be related to the return loss performance. Suggestion is to get one of the LMH1219EVM and confirm this board can achieve more than 50m 5.5CUHD cable reach. Then use this board to find the root cause or trouble shoot customer board issue.
