TCAN1043-Q1: Standby mode communication

Part Number: TCAN1043-Q1

If TCAN1043-Q1 is in stand-by mode, would CAN bus traffic still be operational?

The datasheet specifies a “weak ground” is implemented in the standby state. I’m worried that means it might pull the bus low and thus eliminating communication.

Thanks!

  • Viktorija,

The bus isn't pulled to ground through a low impedance.  Rather, it is pulled via the input resistance of the CAN receiver, which is fairly high (~25 kOhm).  You might think of it as more of a weak bias than a forced voltage.  As such, communication will still work although a shift may be observed in the bus voltage levels.  (Particularly, the recessive state voltage - which itself is only weakly biased by each receiver on the bus - will become lower.  How much lower it gets would depend on the number of transceivers on a bus and the ratio of active to standby nodes.)
