DS80PCI402: DS80PCI402 EEPROM Requirements

Part Number: DS80PCI402

Hi Team,

I want to use the TI DS80PCI402 Repeater Device.

Can you please Check (Couldn’t find it in data sheet) What is the required EEPROM size (and other important parameters) and if possible suggest me device.

Can I use the AT24C02 Device which is already defined in my system?

Thanks,

Shlomi

  • Hi Shlomi,

The AT24C02 will definately work.  It is often recommended for this type of application.

We recommend to choose a variety to EEPROM which can support 1 MHz operation.

More information about the EEPROM programming and image format can be found in the following applications note.

  • Hi Lee,

    1. In the EVK of the DS80PCI402 there is an option to set this pin to R mode (20K to GND) but in the data sheet ENSMB = R mode is not mentioned (only ENSMB=0 or ENSMB=1) do I need to support this option
    2. Regarding Rate pin:

When its without DEM control does it means that in this mode (RATE=R) the Deemphasis dip switch changes don’t effect at all.

    Thanks,

    Shlomi

  • Hi Shlomi,

    1. The ENSMB pin only uses 3 levels.  0 = pin control, Float = EEPROM configuration, and 1 = SMBus Control.  Once the EEPROM configuration is complete, the DS80PCI402 will also accept SMBus register read/write commands.

    2. I do not recommend to use without DEM control.  In some cases the signal is optimized with a slight amount of DEM included.  Either -1.5dB or -3.5dB.  I would not recommend exceeding -3.5dB in a PCIe application.

The RATE pin = R should not allow DEM changes to be present on the output.  I would not recommend to use this setting for the reason in #2 above.

  • Hi Lee,

Attached schematic about DS80PCI402SQE/NOPB can you please review it?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Shlomi,

The schematic looks good.  There are options for all the configuration pins.

The only the I see which is a question is the SW? component attached to the SD_TH net.  There should not be a need to add the switch.

  • Hi Lee,

since Shlomi is OOO for vacation I'll continue, please find the customer responses below:

    1. Regarding Question 1 below;

Can you approve that the forth level option ( R = 20K to GND) is no needed for ENSMB

    1. Do need to support the forth level option ( R = 20K to GND) for the LPBK pin (it supported in the EVK)
    2. Do need to support the forth level option ( ‘1’ = 1K to VDD) for the RATE pin (it supported in the EVK and is RESERVED according to the datasheet)

please advise back, thanks in advance.

    regrads,

    Shai

  • Hi Shai,

The "Reserved" options are not needed in regular systems.  The EVK was just built to include all the options.

    Lee
