SN65DSI86: Display Port to embeded Display Port blidge

Part Number: SN65DSI86

Hello

My customer is looking for Display Port to Embeded Display Port blidge. Does SN65DSI86 suit for this?

What is difference between Display Port and Embeded Display Port?

Best regards,

Tetsuro

eDP was used specifically in embedded display applications such as Notebook PCs. eDP is Based on the VESA DP Standard and has the same electrical interface as DP. The difference between eDP and DP are some modifications in protocol and features optimized for internal display use.

    DSI86 is a DVI to eDP/DP bridge.

    Thanks

  • Hello David,

    Thank you for your answer.

There is no difference on Physical level, but need a controller to convert the protocol. And TI does not have dedicated ICs for this conversion. Is my understanding correct?

    Best regards,

The protocol differences are optional. You can use DP to drive eDP directly, there is no need for a bridge chip.

    Thanks
