TPS65987D: How long does it take to complete the soft reset command?

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987

We want to do soft reset by  setting 0x50 "Data Control Register" bit [1] "SoftReset".

After that, we have to set some registers, but we have to know how long it takes to complete the soft reset command, because during SoftReset, commands are ignored.

Please tell us the required maximum time of 0x50 "Data Control Register" bit [1] "SoftReset" completion.

And also, please tell us the required maximum time of "Gaid" 4CC Command completion.

Thank you

Takki

  • Hi Takki,

Both the 4CC command Gaid and SoftReset perform the same action: a soft reset of the TPS65987D digital core.

The 4CC GAID performs a cold reboot of the device instead.

Because the soft reset functionality is limited to the digital core and no other PD related actions are taken (including no repeat of the boot process), I often recommend solving design issues with other commands.

Is there an issue you are seeing that Gaid could solve?

    Scott

  • Hi, Scott.

After IC power input is on, TPS65987DDH is sometimes into a malfunction status.

In this status, IC cannot raises HPD signal when Alt mode DP display is connected.

We realized that the malfunction status is cleared by either toggling the IC power input, or soft reset.

    So, we decided using SoftReset.

Of cource, we are demanding to research the root cause of HPD malfanction and fix of it.

  • HI Takki,

What firmware patch version of '87DDH are you using?

    Regards,

    Scott

  • Hi Scott,

When we found the problem of HPD function, we were using TPS65987_88_F707_10_05.bin (2018 December, tool ver.4.09)
Now we are using TPS65987_88_F707_10_06.bin (from 2019 February, tool ver.5.1 or later)

Anyway, we want the maximum time specs of Soft Reset ASAP, could you tell us the spec?

If you don't have detailed data, you can give an approximate estimate.
    Regard,
    Takki

  • Hi Takki,

A planned firmware patch may address the issue.
