TUSB1046A-DCI: Please help to re-confirm the trace length can be supported by TUSB1046?

Hi Sir,

Could you please help to re-confirm the trace length that our TUSB1046 can support or not.

The case:

PCH to MUX for USB3.1 Gen2 :3000mil(Pre-Channel)
MUX to Type C con :1000mil (Post Channel)
DP1.4 (from GPU) to MUX :10000mil.

The question from customer the Pre-Channel is too short and under 6000mil, would it be the impact that 1046 can not support it?

BTW, please refer to the Intel requirement which provide from customer.

6000 mil is max supported trace length by the PCH. TUSB1046 can support 3000mil pre-channel trace length.

Please also pay attention in the stackup and via placement. You want to minimize via placement as much as possible.

Hi David,

Thanks for your quick reply, but as the docs what Intel mentioned. The minimum length of pre-channel is 6000mils... that is what the concern from our customer, they afraid the trace is too short and shorter than Intel's requirement, so the signal will too strong not proper supported by re-driver.

Please help to re-confirm if the 3000mils on per-channel is Confident for us, then I will let customer go ahead the design.

Please have the customer to sync up with Intel. I would think the 6000mil to be the max, not the min.

Hi David,

I will ask customer to re-check with Intel.

So, for this case... no problem that TUSB1046 can support both "PCH to MUX for USB3.1 Gen2 :3000mil(Pre-Channel)" & DP1.4 to MUX :10000mil (Pre-channel), correct?

BTW, do we need to ask them to wire more the PCH-MUX trace into the same length of DP-MUX side?

PCH-MUX trace is a separate bus from the DP-MUX side. We just need to set the PCH-MUX equalizer and DP-MUX equalizer to a different value to account for the different loss.
