THVD1500: HBM ESD test method

Part Number: THVD1500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: STRIKE

Dear Ti Experts,

My customer designed THVD1500 in a key project, they want to verify the" ± 16 kV HBM ESD" parameter from datasheet, could you kindly help to provide the test condition for it, such as test equipment type, how to set up test circiut, and other points for attention? Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Bruce,

The device is placed in an ESD simulator using an adapter socket.  The ESD simulator is configured for the HBM discharge model, which involves an energy storage capacitance of 100 pF and a discharge resistance of 1.5 kOhms.  The tester is calibrated regularly to make sure it generates discharge pulses in accordance with ANSI/ESDA/JEDEC JS-001 and its proper operation is checked each day of use.  The discharge for THVD1500 was applied to the A and B pins (pins 6 and 7) with respect to the GND terminal (pin 5).  Several units were tested at each strike level: 500 V, 1000 V, 1500 V, 2000 V, 2500 V, 3000 V, 4000 V, 5000 V, etc. up to 16000 V.  Units are tested before and after the strike to verify there is no loss of performance.
