DP83848-EP: DP83848-EP unpowered but rest of board is powered

Part Number: DP83848-EP

Hello,

Are there any special requirements that need to be taken when power is removed from the Ethernet PHY device (DP83848-EP) but not the rest of the board? (ie disabling Ethernet functionality by removing power)

Is there a risk that noise can be picked up on the unpowered lines and be transferred to the surrounding interfaces (ie. RS422)?

thanks,
Jeff

  • Jeff,

You must adhere to the Absolute Maximum Ratings section to prevent damage to the device.

Of primary concern would be Vin, Vout ratings.  If VCC =0, then you cannot have any inputs (or outputs) biased to be less than -0.5V or greater than 0.5V.  This is due to the presence of ESD protection diodes.
