P82B715: Some questions

Part Number: P82B715

Hi Sirs,

Sorry to bother you.

1. Does P82B715  need added on both sides? or just put one side will be fine?
2. Does P82B715  have  suggestion of how long the cable needs to be added? Or is it a short cable without problems?

  • Hi Shu-Cheng,

Typically the device would need to be placed on either side in order to support bidirectional communication.  The main benefit of this device is being able to sink larger currents on the buffered bus (allowing for lower pull-up resistances or higher voltages to be used, allowing for longer distance data transmission) - most "standard" I2C devices would not be able to support this.

There is no issue with using a short cable.  Shorter cables will generally have lower parasitic capacitances and so could use higher pull-up resistance values.  You can refer to Section 9.2.2.2 of the datasheet for more information on pull-up calculations.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

    Regards,
    Max
