TRS3122E: Interfacing with TMS320C6678 DSP

Part Number: TRS3122E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6678

Hi,

in our design we will be using TRS3122E 1.8 V Low Power Dual RS-232 Transceiver with TI 6678 DSP to print over computer terminal.

UART controller's I/O  in DSP are at 1.8 V compatible .

in TRS3122E for driver output Voh = 4.8 V when vcc=1.8v  and receiver output to DSP will be VCC(1.8)v - 0.04.

Plz let us know whether the attached image (DSP -> TRS3122E -> Computer Terminal) works  or do we need to place a voltage translator (1.8v to 3.3v) b/w DSP and TRS3122E ?

  • Hi Naresh,

Yes, this connection should work without requiring a level shifter as long as the "VL" rail of the TRS3122E is powered via 1.8 V.  At this voltage the logic input/output specifications of TRS3122E align with those of TMS320C6678.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Regards,
    Max
