TPIC8101: Building a tachometer using TPIC8101 and 1 or 2 knock sensors

Hello,

I am wondering if TPIC8101 together with 2 knock sensors (I am thinking to use 2 instead of one to a better accuracy) and a processor is suitable to design and build a tachometer which can be capable to read RPM of diesel engines only by attach the knock sensors to the engine.

Can this TPIC8101 be used for this? Is this reliable or do you have other recommendation ?

Hi Lucian,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We are not an expert at system level design with the diesel engins. But, we can answer any TPIC8101 electrical device related questions. Building a tachometer is not a typical use case of this device. I am not sure if that it is even possible.

I am not aware of any other device that can be used to measure the RPM of a diesel engin
