DP83867IS: DP83867 changing lines: Auto-MDIX and +- changes

Hi,

my customer wants to use DP83867IS.

1. part of the question: Auto- MDIX

Is it possible to cross line A and B twisted pair lines only? so can semi-cross over cables be used?

C and D would stay not crossed over.

2. part of the question:

would it be possible to change + to - lines and vice versa on one twisted pair?

Would the Phy recognize and work fine with this condition?

    Hi Marion,

    1. Yes, in 1000Base-T mode the PHY can detect and correct for unusual crossovers through PMA signalling. In 100Base-TX and 10Nase-Te, channels C and D are not used. So the cable that you mentioned above can be used with DP83867IS.

    2. Yes, the PHY can detect and correct inverted polarity individually on each channel. So if one channel happens to have incorrect polarity while the others are correct, the PHY will still work correctly.
