TPS65987DDJ: Miscellaneous Configuration setting

Part Number: TPS65987DDJ

Hi Team,

In our Customization tool, V5.15, 5.20 and 5.21, we have this "miscellaneous configuration" which select I2C voltage level, Support Active Cable and Relax OCP. May I know what are the purpose of the settings, and when should we use "Support DP Acive Cable" and "Relax OCP on Voltage Transitions"?

In our Host Interface Technical Reference Manual, it indicated teh 0x2b is reserved, and should return a length of 0? (table 1-1, page 14)

  • Hello Sai,

Here is the definition of what an active cable is within the Type-C PD spec.

"A cable with a USB Plug on each end at least one of which is a Cable Plug supporting SOP’, that also incorporates data bus signal conditioning circuits. The cable supports the Structured VDM Discover Identity Command to determine its characteristics in addition to other Structured VDM Commands (Electronically Marked Cable see [USB Type-C 1.2]"

You would enable this bit if you want to enable DP active cable functionality to any connected cables.

For the Relax OCP on Voltage Transitions, the definition is as follows.

"When enabled, the PD controller will not trigger and OCP event during a voltage transition from one PDO to another"

So you would enable this bit if you know that your system will potentially pull a large amount of current during a voltage transition that may cause an OCP event to trip.

Hope this helps answer your question.
