TFP401 DVI Display Interface not recognized when using Displayport to DVI Interface.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TFP401

I have an emulator board using a TFP401 DVI Display Interface. I have a laptop with a Displayport output and an NVidia 3100M graphics card; I have a Displayport-to-DVI converter (single link) between the laptop and the TFP401. The TFP401 cannot be recognized. It works with a computer with a dedicated DVI output, and the laptop-adapter works to a DVI monitor (DVI chipset unknown). Is the TFP401 even compatible with Displayport/DVI configuration? Any suggestions?

  • Through the use of the passive adapter, Displayport is capable of driving a single-link DVI display.  In this case, it appears there may be an issue with the monitor not being detected(Possible EDID ROM issue or a detect issue with the adapter and monitor) and the graphics source does not enable the output.  The interface from the adapter to the TFP401 is DVI, so there is no compatibility issue between Displayport and the TFP401.  On the monitor side, is the HTPLG Detect pin of the DVI connector configured?

  • Thanks for the response... the supplier of the emulator board being used (emulates monitor) had not configured the HTPLG pin.  Once I pulled the pin to 5V through a 4.7k resistor, the TFP401 was recognized as a valid monitor by my laptop.
