Hi Team,

I have a customer that has an inquiry related to black burst signal which will have no data(black) in the active region. He is asking if it is okay if they ground the pixel data bus and drive only the sync signals (HSYNC,VSYNC,FID) and use the device in slave mode?

Sorry for the delayed response but I have been out of the office.

I am not 100% sure I understand what the customer is asking?

With the digital data inputs tied low then the THS will output a static image (color depends on how the THS is configured).

This is OK.

What are they actually trying to accomplish?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for getting back at this query.

We are looking to generate a Genlock signal out of THS. Genlock is a sync signal which either a black burst signal or Tri-level signal with no video data in it.

We do not want to drive any data on the pixel data bus due to some limitations and would like to keep it grounded.

We are okay if the THS generates a static image when the pixel bus is kept grounded, provided the external sync signals are properly embedded on to the output signal.

Hope I have cleared the doubt on our requirement.

If all you need is the syncs then fixing the data inputs is perfectly OK.

Yes, Sync generated based on the external sync inputs is the only thing that we need.

Also, it will be helpful if you could share any other details and requirements if any, in making this setup.

The TVP7002 product page has some development files which might be helpful.

In the zip file TVP7002 + THS8200 EVM Kit Setup (Rev. A) there are some 'command' files which can be used as a guide for how to configure the THS8200 in different modes.

It looks like the schematics are not directly available by searching TI.com any more, but ironically searching Google for TVP7002 EVM returns a link back to TI.com (Go figure !!)
