TCA9517: Connection method

Part Number: TCA9517

Dear all,

Our customer would like to ask about connection method of TCA9517.

Is there any problem with the connection method that connects multiple connections on the B side of the TCA9517 and one A side as shown in the figure below?

Also, please let me know if you have any concerns at this time.

Best Regards,

Y.Ottey

  • Hello,

The "low" outputs from one B side wouldn't be properly received by the "B" sides on the other devices (they would be interpreted as high levels).  So, this connection method could work for communication between the left-side device and one right-side device, but not between the right-side devices.

By the way, we have released a new design tool for I2C intended to make understanding the valid connections between different devices easier.  You can find it here:

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Regards,
    Max

  • Hi Max,

    Thank you for your reply.

    Our customer ask following question.

In the case of the following circuit, is the flow when the A side of device ② is driven LOW as follows?

”When A side of device② is driven LOW, 0.5V is output on B side of device②. Then, the output on the A side of device ① becomes open, and the voltage becomes 0.5V. Next, the B side of devices ② and ③ does not recognize LOW, so the A side output is open."
