TPS65987DDJ: TPS65987DDJ FW updated questions

Part Number: TPS65987DDJ

Dear,

For TPS65987DDJ, the FW can be updated over I2C using external controller, if the PD has already working, then the FW is updated over I2C using EC, what will happen then? When the new FW will be updated? and if it is updated, will the PD stop working and then negotiate again after the FW update?

Thanks.

  • Hi John,

Are you asking about updated the SPI Flash over I2C or booting the device through the EC? If you are booting the device over the EC, you can only do so when the PD controller first boots and is in PTCH Mode. If you are updating the SPI Flash through I2C from the EC, you can do so during run-time but the new FW will not take effect until the next time the PD controller boots.

    Thank you,
    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply. my application is want to update the FW  to the SPI flash using EC during the PD run, there is question when the PD controller will boot the new updated FW? Is it the PD should be powered off and then power on again to load the new FW?

    Thanks.

  • Hi John,

You are correct. Once the FW updated to the SPI Flash is complete, the PD controller will have to be rebooted for the new FW to take effect.

    Thank you,
    Eric
