TPS65987D: Functionality without external SPI flash

For TPS65987D and TPS65988, how functional are these devices without an external SPI flash device feeding them configuration files? Can this safe configuration data be programmed using a microcontroller host?

Hi Gregory,

Yes, you can also program the TPS65987D and TPS65988 from a host using the I2C interface of the device. You can also read the TPS65987 and TPS65988 SPI Less Host Programming Over I2C app note for more detailed information on this.

Is it possible to use the binary output of the config tool with a micro to program the TPS6598x over I2C?

Looks like this is described in section 3.1.3.

Hi Gregory,

Yes you can program the binary with the GUI but you will also need to use either FTDI or an Aardvark Host Adapter to program the PD controller.
