TPS25810: BC 1.2 question

Part Number: TPS25810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2514, TPS2546, TPS65987D

Hello

Customer use TPS25810 EVM used below tool then test Apple mobile phone. It shows only support 2.4A charging. Is it correct?

1.Below is customer schematics. They connect to different mobile phone but still can not charging 5V up to 3A. Could we know what is the issu root cause?

2. Type C Dp/Dn pin is connected to CPU and TPS2514 Dp/Dn simultaneously on schematics.

First condition: if de-pop CPU Dp/Dn connection and type c connector Dp/Dn connect to TPS2514 , it can charge Millet mobile phone to 1.6A but can not access USB 2.0 device by external Typec HUB.

Second condition: If de-pop TPS2514 Dp/Dn and type c connector Dp/Dn connect to CPU USB 2.0 , the board can not support fast charge  but can access USB2.0 device by external Typec HUB.

Could we know how to support fast charge 5V/3A and access USB2.0 device simultaneously ?

BTW, That is NB application. Customer see many mobile phone support QC2.0/QC 3.0 and less find support BC1.2 mobile phone. How to implement QC 2.0/QC 3.0 5V/3A and which PD solution support it? Thank you.

  • Hello Patrick,

You cannot support high current charging (2.4A) and USB 2.0 data at the same time. Being able to support 2.4A puts the TPS2514 into divider 3 mode. If you look at figure 13 within the TPS2514 datasheet, the DP/DM lines are actually pulled up to a voltage of 2.7V. Therefore, no data can be transmitted on the USB2.0 lines as the TPS2514 pulls those lines high. The TPS2514 is intended for charging only applications where data is not needed.

If you wish to be able to support both, recommend looking into the TPS2546 and change the charging scheme whether you want to support data or not at that specific time.

Hope this helps answer your question.

  • Hello

If customer would like to support QC3.0 or QC 2.0 by typec C? Does TPS65987D support it or have any PD solution to support 5V/3A QC 3.0?

Another questions, TPS2514 and TPS2546 all support 5V/3A fast charging?  Thank you.

  • Hi Patrick,

For the same of keeping the same topic for this thread, would you be able to ask you TPS65987D question in a different thread?

For your other question, the TPS2546 does not offer the option of advertising divider 3 charging, only divider 1 and 2. Divider 3 advertises current capability of 2.4A while divider 2 offers 2.1A. The TPS2514 does not connect to VBUS, so it does not limit the current draw at all. If you use the internal power path for the TPS2546, then you can set the current limit to 3A. You do not need to use the internal power path though.

Hope this helps answer your question.
