AM26C32: Unused terminal processing

Part Number: AM26C32
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM26LV31, AM26LV32
Please tell us about AM26LV31 as well as AM26C32.
My development board uses only three receivers.
One receiver is unused.
How should the 4A, 4B, and 4Y pins be handled respectively? (Pull up or pull down or open?)
  • AM26LV31 in the above question is a mistake of AM26LV32.
  • Hello,

The devices can tolerate open inputs, but it is usually best to tie one half of the differential input (e.g., A) to VCC and the other half (e.g., B) to ground in order to provide a valid differential input level.  This can be done either via pull-up/down resistances or via direct connections and prevents the outputs from oscillating or otherwise toggling based on coupled noise.  The single-ended outputs can be left floating/disconnected.

    Regards,
    Max
