AM26C32C: AM26C32CNS support Multi-drop?

Part Number: AM26C32C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM26C31, AM26C32

Hi,

Please let me know whether AM26C32CNS supports Multi-drop function.
In other words, Does AM26C31 connect many AM26C32 devices?

Thanks and best regards,
M. HATTORI.

  • Hello Hattori-san,

It can be OK to connect multiple receivers (up to 10 are common in RS-422 applications).  You can calculate the additional loading of each receiver by considering its input resistance, which in the case of AM26C32 is at minimum 12 kOhms.  In connecting multiple nodes, you should be aware that longer branch or "stub" connections to unterminated receivers would introduce signal reflections that could impact signal integrity; therefore, it is recommended to keep these lines as short as possible.  For a more detailed explanation of these kinds of system-level concerns, you may want to reference this application note: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slla070d/slla070d.pdf.

If you have any further questions please let us know.

    Regards,
    Max
