ONET1151L: ONET1151L tx eye diagram is abnormal

Part Number: ONET1151L

Our optical modules using ONET1151L have been in MP.We found some of optical modules can not transmit the data at the first test station when the optical modules powered on by the first time. Then the failure syptom can be repeated all the time. After analysis, it was found that the laser driver(ONET1151L) worked abnormally and the eye diagram is failed by measureing with an oscilloscope.

What are the possible reasons for this syptom? The eye diagram  shows which part of the chip is damaged?

  • Greetings,

There are some items that we can check:

1). A failed part versus a normal part, current consumption is the same?

2). If you take your ohmmeter, comparing good versus bad part, what impedance do you see on pins 20/21 & 22/23 ?

3). If you look at eye crossing, data rate is close to the rate you are expecting?

    Please let me know.

    Regards,, Nasser

  • Hi ,Nasser

Thank you for your support, the following questions are confirmed as follows:

1). A failed part versus a normal part, current consumption is the same?

---the current consumption is same as normal part

2). If you take your ohmmeter, comparing good versus bad part, what impedance do you see on pins 20/21 & 22/23 ?

--- pins 20/21 & 22/23 impedance to GND is 5.5kohms,good versus bad part is same.

3). If you look at eye crossing, data rate is close to the rate you are expecting?

---the data rate isi normal, test rate and the set rate are both 10.3 Gbps.

  • Greetings,

I thought perhaps there could be some electrical over-stress that has caused device failure. Your comments above does not seem to indicate electrical over-stress. You can send this part for failure analyzes. Please contact your TI representative to process this.
