SN65DP159: What't the difference between SN65DP159 & TMDS181(I)

Hi ，

On TI website，I find both SN65DP159 & TMDS181(I) is suit for HDMI retimer application,and PCB is P2P.But I want to know the difference between these two,and which one is recommended？

Could you please help on this?Thanks a lot.

Hi lifang,

The TMDS181 is an HDMI redriver/retimer intended for sink side applications (e.g inside a monitor). The input is DC-coupled only.

The SN65DP159 is a DP++/AC-coupled HDMI redriver/retimer intended for source side applications (e.g.for a PC). If the HDMI output of your processor is AC-coupled you should use the SN65DP159.

Thank you for your reply,and I still want to know :

For DP input,SN65DP159 is only a level shifter and a retimer,it isn't a protocol converter to HDMI,is it?

If my understand is right,do you have the DP to HDMI protocol converter?

That is correct. Unfortunately we do not have DP to HDMI protocol converters.
