I need to interface between 2 systems that have isolated grounds.
Is it ok to use isolation transformers between AM26C31 and AM26C32 ?
The requirement is to drive 4 AM26C32 devices using multidrop connection.
AM26C31 ---> 1:1 pulse transformer ---->Bus coupler CP3002 (1:1.4) ----> Bus ---> Bus coupler CP3002 (1.4:1) ---> 1:1 pulse transformer AM26C32
the frequency of signal is 250 kbps.
Is it OK to use this configuration ?
Compared to optoisolators does this configuration has any draw backs
Hi Pradeesh,
It is an interesting idea, but I would be concerned that it would be difficult to make work for any data pattern. If there were longer strings of consecutive "high" or "low" bits, the frequency content of the data pattern would be reduced and could be blocked by the coupling transformers. (This would also be the case if there are any "idle" periods between frame transmissions.) If you were able to constrain this by encoding the data in some way, and if you were able to find transformers that support a low enough minimum frequency, then I believe this sort of scheme could work.

Max
