DP83620: fiber with DP83620

Part Number: DP83620

We are currently using TI DP83620 phy chip for Ethernet communication over copper in one of our 3 phase meter.

Now there is a new requirement for Ethernet communication over OFC for same meter. We are currently developing the same and it would be of great help if you could clear some of our queries.

We have chosen industry standard SFP transceiver for our application. In order to couple the Tx and Rx lines of SFP and DP83620, I found that different type of driver and receivers will have different type of coupling mechanism. While majority of SFP transceivers we used have LVPECL coupling with AC coupling capacitors present in them, we couldn’t find details of the type of driver and receiver used in DP83620. Could you shed some details on them and if possible provide application notes for the same?

Thanks

  • Hi Akshat,

Please see figure 9-2 in the datasheet.

The DP83620 has a CML driver and an LVPECL receiver.

You can use AC caps on both the transmit and receive lines, but please ensure you follow the CML termination for the transmit side and LVPECL for the receive side.
