TPS65982: USB2.0 lines to write firmware to flash memory

Part Number: TPS65982

Can i use TPS65982 USB2.0 lines to program MCU (MSP430) that writes TPS65982 firmware to flash memory afterwards?

The device that im working on is an alternative mode , for displayport. I need the TPS65982 to power MCU and allow it to use its USB 2.0 lines , to program the MCU. Then i want to use the MCU to write the TPS65982 displayport firmware to flash memory , that is shared with the MCU.

The question is- "Will TPS65982 power the MCU and allow it to use the USB2.0 lines to program it , if the flash memory is empty at the begining? "

  • Hi Eriks,

The TPS65982 will not enable the external power path or the USB2.0 lines if there is no firmware in the external flash firmware. The Flash chip should contain the firmware and configuration for the TPS65982 in order for the TPS65982 to enable the USB2.0 mux and the power path to power the system.

    Thank you,
    Eric
