TPS65987EVM: Cannot get it to flash or communicate using the Application Customization Tool.

Hi,

My customer is having issues flashing the unit through the application customization tool.

Below is the error:

Exception Encountered during SPI Flash to Device:No FTDI I2C channels (I2C_GetNumChannels) detected, exiting....

<type 'exceptions.Exception'>

In the Show Details I get:

Traceback (most recent call last):

File "dialogWindow.pyc", line 3393, in flash_device

File "hw_interface.pyc", line 187, in hw_open

Exception

Under the device manager I can see 4 USB Serial Com ports with no errors and the ports go away when I disconnect the usb cable so it appears the FTDI unit is connected. I am using Windows 7.

Hello Kevin,

Can you confirm that the board has power from the barrel jack connector when you attempt to program it? Also, can you try to to an I2C address sweep using the GUI tool?

my customer has the power connected and have tried a sweep. It will not work on his work machine. but did get it to operate on laptop at home.

why the flash will not update?

If you can help with this I would appreciate it.

The home laptop runs Windows 10.

the error seen is SPI flash to device failed verification. he also gets an “invalid region pointers Setting to defaults” read when trying to read current region offsets under the flash firmware tool.

Hello Kevin,

Can you try setting region 0 to 0x2000 and region 1 to 0x6000 and try this?

Hi Kevin,

There have been many issues with FTDI programming. I think one of the most common issues is with having the wrong drivers installed. You may be able to check online for a guide to have the correct one installed. You may have to do some trial and error with the different driver versions to find the correct one.

For our newer devices we have switched to Tiva for programming. Therefore, I would recommend either using a TIVA board for programming or an Aardvark, if you can't find the correct drivers for the FTDI.

I have also heard that some people found success after using the other USB ports for FTDI, so you could also check that.
