DP83849I: Is different MAC interface support and port MUX capability

Part Number: DP83849I

Hello,

Can DP83849 configure different MAC interface like MII for port_A and RGMII for port_B?

Only one ethernet connector but MAC interface wanted to switch between port_A and port_B, can DP83849 switch MII port and RGMII port?

I meant Figure 5-4, MII interface seems to be able to be muxed. MII and RGMII case also supports this Mux feature?

Best regards,

Toshihiro Watanabe

  • Hello Toshihiro,

Can you please tell me what your application is and why a dual-port PHY is being considered?

The DP83849I does not support RGMII, you may configure the individual ports to MII or RMII.

If you read the section of the datasheet right above Figure 5-4 it mentions this "For proper clock synchronization, this function requires the device be in RMII mode or Single Clock MII mode of operation."
