TCAN4550EVM: Help Setting up Board

Part Number: TCAN4550EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550-Q1

Hi there,

I am very new to both CAN and SPI so am unsure where to start in setting up the TCAN4550EVM board.

I have the CAN source connected to DB9, a 12V power source connected to VBat and the SCLK SDI, SDO and nCS connected to an external STM32L496zg microcontroller.

There is currently no data being pushed out over the SDO pin and I am unsure as to how to get data pushed out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chloe

  • Chloe,

A good starting point for the TCAN4550-Q1 is in the product folder. There is a starter code pack on the design & development page, and a software user's guide on the technical documents page. These two items will help get started with the configuration of the device to start sending CAN frames.

One reason the SPI might not be responding is the mode the device is in. Once powered up, a 4-minute timer starts, and once this runs out the device will go into sleep mode, where SPI is not available.

Can you let me know the steps you take when you power up so far?

    Regards,
