TPD2S300: How does faulty condition flag determined

Part Number: TPD2S300

I have a simple application for pass through application , i am looking for bus protection for moisture and short circuit,

what is the most recommended part?

  1. What are the condition for FLT flag to work – is this SHORT CIRCUIT ( short is 0 Ohm)/ or partial resistance I.E water etc
  2. Will this component work if it will be connected to VCC( not 5v ) or not? ( if connected to LDO output)
  3. Are the CC resistors implemented in this design?
  4. Is there some clear information regard dead battery feature and implications ?

  • Hello,

    1. The TPD2S300 will protect the CC pins from a Short-to-Vbus event. If there is a Short-to-Vbus event on either one of the CC pins, the OVP FETs open and the FLT pin is asserted. The connector side voltage clamps, OVP FETs with extremely fast turnoff time, and system side voltage clamps all work together to insure the level of stress seen on the CC1 and CC2 pin during a short-to-VBUS event is comparable to an HBM ESD event.

    2. The TPD2S300 datasheet has a list of recommended operating conditions.

    3. The dead battery resistors are available with the TPD2S300.

    4. The TPD2S300 data sheet discusses the part's dead battery resistors in section 7.3.5 and section 8.2.1.2.2. For more information on how to use the dead battery resistors, check out that section.

    Thanks,

    Emma
