TUSB1044: TUSB1044 compensation capability

Part Number: TUSB1044

Dear,

For TUSB1044, for typical FR4 PCB, for 10Gb signal, how long the trace it can be compensated generally?

How much insertion loss can be compensated in real case, could you please give some advice?

We have 25cm trace with 10Gb USB3.1 Gen2, can it be used in such case?

Thanks.

  • Please refer to Table 7. TUSB1044 Receiver Equalization GPIO Control.

For Downstream Facing Port using 1100mV linearity range, max equalization is 10.5dB at Nyquist frequency of 5Gz. For Upstream Facing Port using 1100mV linearity range, max equalization is 8.6dB at Nyquist frequency of 5GHz.

The insertion loss of the trace depends on trace width, the PCB dissipation factor, the dielectric constant, etc. Assume 0.9dB/in loss for 10G USB signal, max trace length can be supported is 11.3in for Downstream Facing Port max equalization of 10.5dB using 1100mV linearity range, and ~9in for the max equalization of 8.6dB Upstream Facing Port. If adding additional loss from the via, the connector, etc, the length will be shorter than the calculated length.

The calculation is also based on TUSB1044 RX equalization. Since USB is a bi-directional bus, you also need to take a look at the host RX design capability to determine the max length between the host and TUSB1044.

    Thanks
