LMH0376: Which SDI reclocker is the best candidate for my application?

Part Number: LMH0376
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH0346, LMH0366, , LMH1226, LMH0318, LMH0397, LMH1219EVM

Hello TI support,

I'm looking for a 3G-SDI reclocker (to reclock 3G-SDI inputs coming into our board) that have, the following features:

- Ideally a single 2.5V power supply

- Ideally no external clock need

- Mandatory : Operational through pin strapping only (no SPI/SMbus)

I identified the following parts:

- LMH0346 but it requires 3.3V and an external clock

- LMH0366 but according to the threat below, it can be needed to program it first through SPI to have good performance

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/138/t/464320?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=LMH0366

- LMH0376 seems to meet all my needs

So actually, I think the LMH0376 is the most suited device considering my needs.

Can you please confirm?

Or do have other parts to suggest ?

Thank you,

Yann

  • Hi Yann,

Instead, the suggestion is to use one of the following devices:

1). LMH1226: This is a 12G SDI reclocker with one input 50-ohm input and two 50-ohm output. This can be used for 3G and future upgrade to 12G - if needed.

2). LMH0318: This part has two 50-ohm input and one-75-ohm and another 50-ohm outputs.

3). I don't know the overall block diagram of your application but LMH0397 may work in this application as well.

    Regards,, Nasser

  • Hi Nasser,

    Thank you for the answer.

    LMH1226 seems very interesting indeed.

But LMH0376 seems also interesting. PLL Bandwith (3.5MHz) is narrower than LMH1226 (5MHz).

As I don't need deemphasis and would like to reach 800mVpp on the output, considering the device has to works only with pin strapping, LMH0376 looks very suitable for this.

You didn't mentioned LMH0376 on your suggestion list, so maybe I'm wrong considering this part for my application?

    Thank you for the explanation,

    Regards,

    Yann

  • Hi Yann,

For pin strapping, i would suggest three devices i noted earlier.

  • Hi Nasser,

Thank you for the answer. So I will use LMH1226 in pin stapping mode only.

I also need a 3G-SDI reclocker to be used between an FPGA and an optical transmitter. The output has to meet SMTPE-424M.

Can you please confirm LMH1226 in pin stapping mode is also suitable for this "output" application ?

I mean, LMH1226 works for both input and output applications?

    Thank you again,

    Yann

  • Hi Yann,

LMH1226 is a retimer or a reclocker and can be used for both on the input side and output side. You can actually check this by getting a LMH1219EVM and operate this part in LMH1226 mode(use 50-ohm input instead of 75-ohm coax mode). You can connect this to your optical module or do any other test that you need to.
