TPD6S300A: TPD6S300A - USB-C protector

Part Number: TPD6S300A

Hi Team,

My customer have a product that located on the body, the input of the product is USB-C that I can charge the product from AC/DC like of smart phone that gave you 5v @ 1/2A or from Computer USB.

When the user do shower or running even the product support IP-68 the USB-C connector after few times burn (probably have short between GND & Vbus) but the product still work so they would like to add USB-C protector like TPD6S300A.

Does TPD6S300A support moisture? If yes what the level of salinity?

Does TPD6S300A support short?

Do TI have application or reference design for such solution?

Thanks,

Shlomi

  • Hello Shlomi,

The TPDS300A provides USB Type-C ports with 20-V Short-to-VBUS overvoltage and IEC ESD protection.

I am checking with one of our experts for more information about the moisture support and will follow up early next week.

As for a reference design, below is Figure 30 from the datasheet that displays a typical application for the device.

    Thanks,

    Emma

  • Hello Shlomi,

The TPD6S300A provides protection if moisture shorts the CC or SBU pins to VBUS. This is the only moisture protection the device provides. This should provide the proper protection you need. For example, if CC got shorted to ground, the current limit in the VCONN switch would protect from that.

SBU path can instead be used for D+/D- if SBU is not being used, so in that case D+/D- is protected from Short-to-VBUS.

    Thanks,

    Emma
