DP83825I: Can DP83825I support EtherCAT ?

Part Number: DP83825I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83822I

Hi,

My customer checked with me if DP83825I can support EtherCAT application? so far, they used KSZ8041 and from its website, it clearly states KSZ8041 can support Ethercat。 please kindly support this question. thanks

  • Hi Yue,

Are they looking for EtherCAT IP Core? The DP83825I qualifies for EtherCAT IP Core since it is an RMII device.

We are working on getting the DP83825I on the Beckhoff approved part list.

If they are looking for ET qualification as well as IP Core qualification, the DP83822I is a device that is Beckhoff approved.

It supports MII, RMII and RGMII.

  • Hi Ross,

Beckoff doesn't recommend RMII PHY for slave. DP83825I is going to be certificated for master or slave? Or this rule of Beckoff will be changed in the future?

    Thanks.

    Zhou

  • Hi Zhou,

The PHY will be applicable for both slave and master but as the app note mentions, RMII has FIFOs leading to increased delay and jitter.

It is up to the system implementer to determine if MII is mandatory. As far as qualification, we expect the DP83825I to be on the list.
