TCAN1043-Q1: how to terminate unused Wake pin

Team, 

If we are not using the WAKE input of this device, would TI recommend we leave the pin floating or tie it to GND?

 If I had the choice, I would like to tie it to GND, but I want to make sure that there wasn’t something I was missing.

  • Hi Viktorija,

    I would recommend either tying it to GND or VSUP so that it is at a known state and does not result in unwanted wake-ups.  Tying it to VSUP actually results in slightly lower battery currents in sleep mode (by ~1 uA), so generally that would be the best way to go.

    Follow up question:

    If we tie the WAKE input to VSUP, are there any concerns about VSUP transients? There could be a case where our battery voltage level would experience fluctuations while our system is asleep.

    It would be hard to say that there are no concerns at all with any transients, but we haven't seen this as an issue so far and many applications make this connection.  Since the WAKE detection thresholds reference to the VSUP rail, if the pins are tied together they should vary together when transients occur (preventing false wake-up requests).  If the customer isn't comfortable with the connection, though, tying to ground is just fine.
