DP83822I: DP83822IRHBR link up time

Hi, Team.

I've been asked by Customer as below.

Why the link up time was different if compare with competitor as WJLXT971ALE

(its datasheet is https://www.digikey.jp/product-detail/ja/inphi-corporation/WJLXT971ALE.A4-857343/1008-1041-ND/2505094)

when they use the their system as below

unit A (PHY：DP83822IRHBR) ⇔　HUB (customer doesn't know which phy is used in HUB)

it took several sec ~ several minutes if unit A is auto negotiation mode and HUB is 100M full duplex mode

it took several sec when they used the unit (used WJLXT971ALE).

in case of the configuration for HUB and unitA were "auto negotiation" each other, the link up time was several time even TI , DP83822I

they want us how those different came up by comparing electrical parameter WJLXT971ALE and DP83822IRHBR.

could you give us those comparison table and the reason why those different link up time happened by pointing it out what different parameter from comp should've been related this phenomenon.?

Q1.does it depend on each ethernet PHY company how much link up time needs?

Q2.Why DP83822 TI Ethernet PHY takes more time than competitor?

Hello Masa,

I would not expect the DP83822 to take so during the auto negotiation process. Anything over 10 seconds could mean there are other factors in play. To answer your questions:

Yes, each Ethernet PHY has different auto-negotiation processes, the automotive PHYs have a more standardized process
The DP83822 should not be taking more than 10 seconds, I suspect there is another issue here

Can you provide me more information about the HUB.

Hello Masa,

I do not see any issues based in the switch, especially because link is finally established. It supports 100M copper Ethernet connection.

Are there any updates on the issue?

Can you please send me the schematic and register reads (before and after auto negotiation) from addresses: 0x0000, 0x0001, 0x0004, 0x0005, 0x0006, 0x0010, 0x0019, 0x0467 and 0x0468.

Please also summarize what strap / register settings are configured on the PHY.
