TPS65987DDJ: FW version causing issues with DP Alternate mode

Hello,

A customer is noticing the following problems with the TPS65987DDJ:

The DP output is only working in one Type C orientation and the display will only work if the adapter is connected during boot.

Is this a problem that you've seen before?

Is this like a FW or HW issue?

Hi Mitchell,

Can you please tell us which FW version you are using? From what it sounds like, it could be a FW configuration issue. Please ensure you have the polarity (Flip) GPIO mapped to the correct GPIO.

Hi Eric,

The customer doesn't think he is using the flip GPIO. They are using an I2C to control the mux built into the SOC.

Do they have to use the flip GPIO?

Also, the FW was provided to them on 11/13. He is not sure the version.

Hi Mitchell,

If they are using I2C, then it is important to ensure that they have the correct I2C writes configured to control the mux when the cable is connected in either orientation. You can refer to the following I2C master app note for more details: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slvae18/slvae18.pdf

I'll pass that app note along.

The version of the firmware they are using is labeled 20191118.

Is there a newer version?

I'm not sure what FW that is, that might be an internal name. Please ensure they are using the latest version of the TPS6598x Application Customization GUI: http://www.ti.com/tool/TPS6598X-CONFIG
