The SN65HVD230 isn't a direct replacement due to it being a 3.3V CAN transceiver, meaning it's main power supply is 3.3V, not just the IO voltages. See this thread for a bit more explanation on that topic.
The SN65HVD251 is a direct pin replacement, but does not have the +/-80V absolute maximum bus protection. Is this a requirement by the customer?

Some industrial applications need high bus fault protection, but it's dependent on the customer need. If they're trying to cost down, can you ask what features they can do without? If they don't need that high of bus fault protection, then yes the SN65HVD251 can be used. The TCAN1042 could also be used, but I would need to understand more of what they need in their application from a feature set perspective.
