TPS65988DJ: Turn off 5V @ PP_CABLE and PP_HV as a power source

Part Number: TPS65988DJ
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65988

Hi,

Our customer encounter a scenario that PP_CABLE/PP_HV would be turned off shortly during their system update.  (VIN_3V3 keeps 3.3V)  When this happens with a power sink device (e.g. dongle) connected, we found CC does not toggle anymore after 5V is back to PP_CABLE/PP_HV.  Can we explain why TPS65988 can't work correctly under such scenario?

Thanks!

Antony

  • Hi Antony,

Would you be able to attach any PD logs or scope captures showing this behavior? Does it function again if you unplug the dongle and plug it back in once the system updates?

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi Hari,

The system does not recover after unplug the dongle and plug it back.  You can see the attached log showing CC not toggles any more after short period turn-off on PPHV/PPCABLE

    Thanks!

  • Hi Antony,

Yes, I did see that the CC did not toggle again afterwards. I think it's a disconnect event that could be caused by UVP on the PP_CABLE signal. I would recommend taking a look at the different commands on the Technical Reference Manual and sending a command that could bring the device up again, such as Gaid or you could also try DISC, whichever you think to be a better fit.

    Thank you,

    Hari
