TMDS171: Do you need the TX external termination?

Part Number: TMDS171

I want to use it as a DVI to HDMI Retimer.

TMDS171 (OUT_D [0:2] p/n) and FPGA (HDMI Receiver) are connected.

However, with the specifications on the FPGA side, the AC coupling capacitor is required between TMDS171 to FPGA.

In this case, does the OUT_D [0:2] p/n required external termination?

Yes, if using AC coupling capacitor between TMDS171 and the FPGA, then the external termination is required. Since the link is now double terminated, the signal amplitude gets cut in half, TMDS171 amplitude output then needs to be boosted to compensate for the amplitude reduction.
