TPS65983B: Input Power Requirement

Is there a way to set the TPS65983 to open the power FET if the input cannot supply a certain adjustable power level (current or voltage setting)?

    Hi Matt,

    For TPS65983B, users are constrained by design to the options in the Applications Configuration GUI Tool. This is required to support Intel Thunderbolt reference designs.

    Hi Scott,

    The Application Configuration Tool does not support the TPS65983 from what I can tell. Would you suggest we switch to a different part to achieve 12V/3A?

    Hi Matt,

    The first qualifier is "Only use TPS65983B if and only if the target design is implementing an Intel Thunderbolt Reference design"

    My general recommendation is to consider TPS65987D or TPS65988 for a new design that needs to source 12V / 3A.

    Both devices support Under Voltage Protection and will respond when VBus meets certain parameters based on Application Configuration settings and current PD contract.
