TPS65987D: Can Under-voltage Protection be disabled?

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987

Hi team!

I would like to know if there is a method to disable "under voltage protection" function?

I referred register descriptions but did't find a register to set it. (I only found the threshold setting)

Our device works in Debug Accessory Mode, and tps65987 here works as UFP only.

In some cases we would like to keep the USB connection even though VBUS voltage drops down, but currently every time VBUS drops, the UVP is tripped and USB will be disconnected.

best regards

Kairin

  • Hi Kairin,

At the moment, there is no way to keep the USB connection when VBUS drops because that behavior would violate the USB-IF PD Specifications. You could try setting the threshold to the max 50% and see if it can operate when the VBUS drops to this level.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi Hari

    Thanks for the answer.

I Have tried setting the threshold to 50% but it was the same as before. And also I found the timing CCs became open was as the same as 20%, it seems like not be triggered by UVP?

“There is no way to keep the USB connection when VBUS drops”  also means both CC pins will become open when VBUS drops and there is no method to keep CC values while VBUS is low, is that right?

    Best regards

    Kairin

  • Hi Kairin,

There will be a disconnect event that will occur if VBUS drops, however, this doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't voltage on the CC lines. PP_Cable will supply power to VCONN which will used for powering the CC signal so that it may reconnect if needed and negotiate a contract for VBUS.

    Thank you,

    Hari
