DS280DF810: 40G & 100G PHY Specs

Part Number: DS280DF810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS280BR820

Team,

I see a lot of low level detail but unsure which 40G or 100G phy specs this part meets (-T? -CR4? -KR4?) Primarily looking at 40G now but parts will be used also for 100G. One side connects to FPGAs in system, the other to a QSFP cage.

I see where for 100G-CR4, the DS280DF810 datasheet says a “repeater” is recommended. Does this mean a retimer is NOT recommended? What about at 40G.

Where can I find this information? I haven’t seen this in the datasheet.

Thank you.

  • Hi,

The DS280D810 is an eight-channel unidirectional retimer. The DS280DF810 has high performance EQ stages capable of meeting the worst case channel high-speed electrical requirements set forth in the IEEE CR4 and KR4 specs. The DS280DF810 however does not implement the optional IEEE link training function for auto-configuration of Tx equalization.

    • The DS280DF810 thus is fit for use in KR4/CR4 link reach extension for host systems where link training is not required
    • The DS280BR820 repeater may be used instead on those applications where the host system requires link training

    Cordially,
