hello, Could you tell me list of use case example of CSI2 virtual channel? When the virtual channel is useful?

i want to know both serializer and deserializer side.

    Hello Ito,

    Thanks for posting your question here. CSI-2 virtual channels are used to separate individual video streams within one video interface. Each video source can be assigned a virtual channel and the channel number is included in each CSI-2 packet header. The MIPI CSI-2 RX can differentiate between different video sources by looking at the packet headers. 

    On the serializer side a common example of how this is used is to send multiple video exposures from an image sensor. The sensor can output two or more video streams for different exposure settings using virtual channels. 

    On the deserializer side this is commonly used for differentiating multiple video streams coming into a deserializer hub. For example if there are 4 cameras coming into the FPD-Link hub, each stream can be assigned a virtual channel and aggregated to one CSI-2 TX port.
