DS80PCI402: Different rate support

Part Number: DS80PCI402

Hi,

Will DS80PCI402 support different Rate in different Lane.

For example, one lane is PCIE Gen3 and the other lane is PCIE Gen1, so the Rate pin I must flout to choose the auto detect? So it means every lane has their own rate detect, right? if that, I suppose it should support different rate in different lane.

BTW, if we have auto-detect? why still have the manual choose function? what's the different?

Thank you.

Penn

  • Hi,

Each channel has an independent rate detect circuit.  We have a manual choice because the same control feature was used on non-PCIe application specific devices.  The manual choice is a benefit when non-PCIe signals are being redriven by the buffer.  These signals may be non-limiting or limiting style regardless of the datarate.

  • Hi Lee,

As we discussed before. Each channel could detect rate independently.

And the different rate need the different EQ and DE level, I see the datasheet, we have two solutions as below, just want to confirm with you.

    1. Pin control. We could set bank A and bank B to different EQ and DE setting. but this solution only allow two different setting to all channel.

    2. SMBUS control, this could setting the register by SMBUS or EEPROM, this could set different EQ and DE setting for every channel.

Am I right, please help confirm.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Penn,

You are correct Pin control only allows 2 settings. One for each signal direction.  While SMBus or EEPROM can control individual channels.
