TL16C2550: Difference between TL16C2550 and TL16C550

Part Number: TL16C2550

Hi,

TL16C2550 is a dual universal asynchronous receiver and transmitter(UART), so could you please tell me the difference between TL16C2550 and TL16C550 ?
I understand that TL16C550 is a single UART and TL16C2550 is a dual UART. Is TL16C550's software available for TL16C2550 ? Please let me know if there are any cautions.

Best regards,
Kato

  • There are a few versions of the single channel 550. I looked at the 'D' version for this question.

Looking at the register map, it looks like MCR bit 3 is the major difference between the two devices which may require software changes.

I suspect that the two devices were built off of the same IP but to be honest, I am not 100% sure because these devices are so old, the design files can't be located.

    "Is TL16C550's software available for TL16C2550 ?"

Unfortunately not, because there are so many different operating systems/platforms out there, it is hard to have software available for all of them. We typically provide support for our devices from an analog standpoint, software is the responsibility of the customer.
